Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef or ground turkey for a lighter option
- 1 small onion or shallot finely chopped
- 1 small green bell pepper finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup yellow mustard
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1/2 cup water or beef broth
- 1 tsp smoked paprika optional
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Hamburger buns for serving
Instructions
Cook the Ground Beef
- In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess grease.
Combine Ingredients in the Slow Cooker
- Add the cooked ground beef, onion, bell pepper, garlic, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, water or broth, and smoked paprika (if using) to the slow cooker. Stir to combine.
Cook
- Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally to ensure the flavors meld together.
Serve
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto hamburger buns and serve warm. Pair with a side of coleslaw, chips, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
