4cupsapple cideruse a local, unfiltered one if you can
1cupbourbona smooth, wheated bourbon like Maker's Mark works well
1/4cuppure maple syrup
2cinnamon sticks
4whole cloves
1star anise
1orangesliced into rounds
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, combine the apple cider, maple syrup, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Do not let it boil.
Reduce the heat to low and let the spices infuse for at least 20 minutes. The longer it simmers, the more intense the spice flavor will be.
Just before you’re ready to serve, remove the saucepan from the heat.
Stir in the bourbon and the orange slices.
Using a ladle, carefully transfer the hot cocktail into glass or insulated mugs.
You can garnish with a fresh orange slice or a cinnamon stick if you’re feeling fancy.
